DOCUMENTARY FILM " FOOD INC" BY ROBERT KENNER
Last night i watched documentary film" Food INC," by Robert Kenner as a part of my English class. The documentary film describes the cruelties to animals, the employees and the control the corporations hold. While the corporations are making huge profits their procedures of producing and the policies they have are unjust on every level. The corporations show no interest in accommodating livestock with proper animal living condition. For them it is more important to produce tons of meat without providing the animals with acceptable raising and farming. In the film there is an alarming scene where animals are packed up tightly on top of each other. Before they are killed they have to suffer and live in unsanitary conditions.Similarly, the food eaten by the livestock greatly differs from natural food chain for animals such as grass. The corporations are feeding them with food loaded with chemically enhanced ingredient to make them fatter. In the film some of the animals are unable to stand up on their feet. If compared with humans; a person to fat to walk is not normal or healthy. Why is it acceptable to eat the meat of such sick animal that is unable to walk?By feeding them the proper animal's food would make meat healthier, even if it means a smaller quantity production. The main reason for this issue is the production and sale of cheap food. But the food sold that today's population eats has a high price. The current generation is struggling with many diseases because of the cheap food. The number of individuals with obesity and diabetic diseases patients are greatly spread among the nation. This leads to spending more on health insurance, medication and doctor visits. Not to mention the personal suffering of those inflicted with the diseases. The corporations are not providing cheap foods, but instead they are filling their bank accounts. To buy those so called cheap products people are contributing to the corporations with wealth, and at the same time risk their health. The corporations create their profits not just by neglecting animals but their employees as well. The labor force behind production is low wage individuals. They are working considerable physically challenging jobs, health hazardous without any benefits and in many cases without legal status. The one without legal status are the most disadvantaged. For the companies they are force behind the production and a cheap expendable labor easily replaced. This is a shame.Another disappointing fact is the control of industry over independent farmers. The farmers invests large amounts of money, which unable them to break the contract. It is sad fact that they control everything. How can people hope for the improvement in the quality of food production if they have this much control already? The way the poisonous food system works now is not promising a healthy life for today's generation or the future one.The documentary film is a wake up call.Everyday people eat food without knowledge how it got to supermarkets or restaurants.Hopefully there will be a positive change to improve all those issue within factories and company policies in the near future.
